Strange Bees

Its not often you get to see a bee with fuzzy blue lines on its abdomen. This bee is from Australia and is a lone bee. It does not belong to a hive or a swarm. The bees will mate and then the female will go off on her own and lay the eggs in a nest in the ground.

Unlike the bees you and I are familiar with these bess do not sting, but they do help to pollinate plants in much the similar way as other bees.

Another interesting fact about these bees is that the males do not nest, they 'roost' on the long stem of a plant and they can often be found sitting in a row over night,
